We purchased a number of different type of blinds for our windows in 2012 for our new house. Doug and Maria were so helpful in suggestions that were pertinent to window view, i.e. to sit and look out/sun protection/privacy etc. for window treatments for each window. They were very professional in the installing. Just recently (2021 – 9 years later later) our remote controller for our roll up blinds quit working. They graciously came by and replaced the controller, which took extra work with the older model motor in the shade.

We had been looking for a store/company that installs plantation shutters, at the suggestion of wife’s sister. We went online, thinking we could easily find a store showroom to see what they have. We drove to five different places only to find them closed or out of business.

Apparently, their websites are not kept current. We were very disappointed, and figured we thought we were the last family on the planet to want plantation shutters. Thus, the reason such stores were out of business.

As a last effort, a day or so later, I decided to browse again and found a number. I did not pay much attention to the name of the business, as I just wanted to call. I was greeted by a very succinct message from an answering machine that asked how many windows I wanted done. “No vagueness here’” I thought – such a direct question from transistors. I hesitated, but left my contact information on the machine, the number of windows, and hung up. I thought about the Speakeasy’s during prohibition in the 1920’s with the man sliding back a small door asking for the password. I was thinking this was another lost cause.

A day later I received a call from a Douglas, who identified himself as from Blinds by Design. I had to think a bit before I realized that the answering machine was indeed being monitored. This launched us (wife and I) into an interesting adventure into the plantation shutter world.

Doug and Maria, his wife (the Team), visited my home, demonstrated their products, and measured all the windows. Doug did the engineering work in measuring in determining the shutter layout, and Maria was the shutter design artisan. I did eventually find another company to provide a quote as well. Both offers were within a few dollars of each other. I decided to go with Blinds by Design primarily because they seem to care.

The rest is history. Doug and Maria worked as team to have the shutters installed. Even the helper crew was very cordial and professional. I was concerned with living in a “glass house” for hours because I removed all the existing window treatments before Doug and crew arrived. However, I should not have had any concerns, because the plantation shutters were installed very quickly.

My wife came home and was thrilled to see a whole new look. The shutters just make the house so complete.

I recommend Blinds by Design without hesitation. We continue to communicate from time to time.

2 years ago I met Doug and Maria when a new neighbor referred them to me to have new window coverings for my newly constructed home. I needed coverings for 2 triple sliders and 10 windows. Needless to say I was overwhelmed at this but thanks to Maria’s assistance with decorating ideas the decision was made to put in Solar Roller shades motorized for the sliders and the Allure transistioal dual sheer shades that were battery operated. I have shown them to so many new friends who were so complimentary on the Quality and the Beauty of all of theiir creation. I have loved them EVERYDAY since the install and the ease of use is the greatest.

Now 2 years later I had to reach out to them as I misplaced my battery charger (which by the way have not needed it for 2 years) because one of the window coverings wands needed to be charged.. Doug called me back within an hour of my phone call and delivered a new battery charger connector early the next day. WOW I was so impressed.

Every aspect of working with Doug and Maria was both professional and friendly. When they came to our home they were on time and well prepared. They shared their knowledge on what does and doesn’t work and what they thought would be best for us. We were interested in plantation shutters. They had several styles and price levels to choose from. They took precise measurements and explained the complete process.
